The Merak facility is Lotte Chemical Titan’s polyethylene site in Indonesia, operated by PT Lotte Chemical Titan Nusantara (LCTN), and is now vertically integrated with the new LINE olefins complex at nearby Cilegon/Merak. It is Indonesia’s largest polyethylene production site, supplying mainly the domestic market and now fed by ethylene from the 1.0 Mt/y LINE naphtha cracker.

Asset Capacities

The Merak complex hosts three polyethylene lines and a BOPP unit:

• LLDPE/HDPE swing plants (3x): 450,000 tonnes per year (combined HDPE and LLDPE capacity).

• BOPP (biaxially oriented polypropylene) film line: 38,000 tonnes per year.

Prior to the LINE project, all ethylene feedstock for Merak PE was imported; since October 2025, ethylene is supplied via pipeline from the LCI naphtha cracker (1,000,000 t/y ethylene, 520,000 t/y propylene) at the integrated Merak/Cilegon site.

Process technologies and licensors

The Merak LLDPE/HDPE swing plants uses Innovene™ G fluidized-bed gas-phase polyethylene technology from INEOS with Ziegler–Natta and chromium catalysts, giving broad density and molecular-weight distributions suitable for both HDPE and LLDPE products.. A detailed description in LCT’s annual report states that the plant “uses BP’s fluid bed production process” designed to produce high-quality polyethylene with good environmental performance, confirming INEOS as the PE licensor. The three Innovene swing plants can switch between HDPE and LLDPE, but actually comprise two HDPE lines and one LLDPE line.
