- The Propylene Glycol (PG) Facility will use proprietary Dow Technology to achieve advanced energy reductions and throughput optimization. The design for the Sadara project is a 70,000 tons per year PG Plant. The basic Reaction is between Propylene Oxide and Water - the Hydration - takes place in two Stages followed by Dehydration and Purification. The Reaction between PO and Water requires a precise amount of Water to favor PG Production. The Reaction Mixture is Dehydrated by evaporation and the various Glycols (Monopropylene Glycol or MPG, Dipropylene Glycol or DPG, and Tripropylene Glycol or TPG) are separated by Distillation.
