Technology summary

Axens Prime-K™ is a process designed to reduce the total sulfur content of kerosene cuts and, if necessary, aromatics content to improve product smoke point and produce jet fuels. This process is particularly suitable for kerosene feeds with sulfur content above 0.3%wt, smoke point and/or freezing point that need to meet jet A1 specifications.

Key Features

  • Mercaptan conversion: reduces total sulfur content of kerosene cuts by converting mercaptans directly to RSSR (disulfides) using a catalyst fixed bed of SCPS-ready, allowing compliance with JET-A1 specifications.
  • Aromatic reduction: Optionally reduces aromatics content to improve product smoke point.
  • Feedstock: Suitable for kerosene feeds with sulfur content above 0.3%wt.

Process Description

The Prime-K process consists of three sections:

  1. Front prewash section: Neutralizes aliphatic acids.
  2. Reaction section: Oxidation reaction converts mercaptans into disulfides using Axens Solutions catalyst “SCPS Ready” in an alkaline environment.
  3. Finishing section: Kerosene is dried by water removal and upgraded on a clay bed to improve product color.
