At the Wilton International site, SABIC operates two principal plants:
-
Olefin 6: Also known as the “cracker,” this plant was originally commissioned in 1979 and is one of Europe’s largest ethylene production facilities. It processes feedstocks (historically naphtha, more recently ethane) to produce ethylene, which is a key raw material for plastics and other chemicals. The ethylene produced is used both internally and exported via pipelines and logistics facilities.
-
System 18 (LDPE Plant): Commissioned in 2009, this is one of the world’s largest single-stream low-density polyethylene (LDPE) plants. It produces a variety of LDPE grades in the form of polymer pellets, which are used by customers to manufacture everyday items such as packaging for food, agriculture, and medical supplies.
Activities of SABIC's Wilton Facility:
- Manufacturing of ethylene, propylene, and butadiene (core building blocks for plastics and chemicals).
- Production of LDPE pellets tailored for various industrial and consumer applications.
- Operation of logistics and storage facilities, including the movement of ethylene to other UK plants via pipelines and export facilities.
- Supporting the supply chain for the chemical and plastics industries in the UK and Europe.
