Description

Yan'an petrochemical plant

The Yan'an Petrochemical Plant (延安石油化工厂) is a downstream petrochemical processing facility co-located with the Yan'an Refinery approximately 4 km to the South in Qinlao Road, Luochuan County, Yan'an City, Shaanxi Province, China (陕西省延安市洛川县秦老路). Commissioned in 2009, it is operated by the Yanchang Petroleum Group Refining & Chemical Company — a wholly owned subsidiary of Shaanxi Yanchang Petroleum (Group) Co., Ltd. — and represents the group's integrated step from fuel refining into petrochemical production. The plant processes naphtha and refinery intermediates from the adjacent Yan'an Refinery through continuous catalytic reforming, diesel hydrotreating, and polypropylene production units, with a combined secondary processing capacity of approximately 2.8 million mt/yr. Together with the Yan'an Refinery, it forms the core of the Yan'an refining and petrochemical hub, and both facilities are designated for decommissioning and replacement under the group's transformative RMB 80.29 billion integrated project.

Future Status

The Yan'an Petrochemical Plant is explicitely listed alongside the Yan'an Refinery and the Yongping Refinery as one of the three existing facilities to be shut down and replaced by the new RMB 80.29 billion, 10 million mt/yr Yan'an Integrated Refining & Petrochemical Project. The new complex will include a 10 Mt/yr CDU and a 1.2 Mt/yr ethylene cracker, representing a fundamental shift from the current fuels-dominated product slate toward an equal fuels-to-chemicals split.
