The Tuke Chemical Branch (图克化工分公司) is a large-scale coal-to-chemicals facility operated by China Coal Ordos Energy & Chemical Co., Ltd., located in Tuke Industrial Park, Wushen Banner, Ordos City, Inner Mongolia. The project was commissioned and began operations in August 2013, with a total investment of approximately 20 billion yuan.
Production Plants and Capacity
Phase I Operations (currently operational):
- Coal Gasification: Approximately 295,000 Nm³/h total capacity
- Synthetic Ammonia: 1 million tonnes per year
- Urea: 1.75 million tonnes per year (large-particle urea)
- Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG): 250,000 tonnes per year
- Mid-temperature Coal Tar: 300,000 tonnes per year
- Crude Phenol and other byproducts
Overall Project Capacity (when fully completed - Phase I + Phase II):
- Synthetic Ammonia: 2 million tonnes per year
- Urea: 3.5 million tonnes per year
The facility is recognized as one of the world's largest fertilizer projects.
Supporting Units
The facility includes integrated supporting units:
- Air separation unit (ASU) for oxygen production
- Utilities and infrastructure systems
- Zero liquid discharge (ZLD) wastewater treatment system producing industrial-grade NaCl and Na₂SO₄
The facility is recognized as one of the world's largest fertilizer projects.
Environmental Performance
The Tuke facility operates with zero liquid discharge wastewater treatment technology, making it a pioneering project in China's coal chemical industry for water conservation. The crystalline salt separation unit produces industrial-grade sodium chloride and sodium sulfate, with no wastewater discharged from the entire facility.
