The St. Clair River Site is NOVA Chemicals' heritage polyethylene manufacturing facility located in Corunna, Ontario (near the St. Clair River).
Acquired by NOVA from DuPont Canada in late 1993 for C$45 million, the facility has been operating since 1959 and produces approximately 395 million pounds (180,000 tonnes) of polyethylene annually using SCLAIRTECH™ technology.
The site primarily manufactures high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and lower volumes of LLDPE, with approximately 40 different polyethylene grades produced for diverse applications including caps and closures, food packaging, bags and liners, household bottles, pipes, barrels, and rotomolded goods.
St. Clair River also features a pilot plant (built 1995) dedicated to testing new catalysts and developing advanced SCLAIRTECH™ polyethylene products for future commercial scale-up.
With approximately 130 full-time employees and ISO 9001 registration, the facility receives ethylene feedstock via dedicated pipeline from the Corunna cracker and represents NOVA's legacy advanced polyethylene technology center.
