Description

The Kashima plant is JPP's largest and most advanced polypropylene production facility. The plant was commissioned with a major 300,000 tonne/year Horizone process unit (#4 line) that started operations in August 2009.

The Kashima facility is situated within the larger Kashima petrochemical complex, which hosts various petrochemical operations including Mitsubishi Chemical's chemical recycling plant. Historically, Kashima operated multiple production lines with a peak total capacity exceeding 640,000 tonnes/year. However, as part of JPP's capacity optimization strategy amid declining domestic demand, the plant closed a 106,000 t/yr line in April 2020.

The Kashima plant serves as a key manufacturing hub for JPP, producing a wide range of polypropylene grades with focus on functional and specialty products, particularly for automotive applications. The 300 kTA unit represents one of the largest single-train Horizone process installations globally. Kashima remains one of JPP's three active production facilities alongside Goi and Mizushima, contributing to the company's total remaining capacity of approximately 765,000 t/yr.
