Process water is water used in a production process when high purity is required to avoid contaminants to interfere with the chemical reaction, corrode equipment or compromise product quality. It is produced from natural water sources such as sea water, river water, ground water through processes such as ion exchange, reverse osmosis, or distillation to remove virtually all dissolved salts and minerals.

Demineralized water with conductivity below 5 μS/cm may be required for certain specialized applications like steam generation in high-pressure steam boilers or sensitive equipment.
