East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST) is a leading research university in Shanghai, China, known for its strengths in chemical engineering and energy technologies. The university is home to the Institute of Clean Coal Technology (ICCT), established in 1995, which focuses on advanced coal gasification research and development. ICCT has developed the internationally recognized Opposed Multi-Burner (OMB) Coal Water Slurry Gasification technology, which is widely deployed in China and abroad for large-scale syngas, chemicals, and fuel production. The institute employs around 100 staff and graduate researchers and serves as a key national center for coal gasification innovation, collaborating with major industrial partners and supporting the commercialization of clean coal technologies.
