Following Sinopec's CBL cracking technology, PetroChina has successfully developed and commercialized complete ethylene production technology, breaking decades of international monopoly in this critical sector.

This achievement represents a fundamental shift in the global petrochemical landscape. Before 2012, China—the world's second-largest ethylene consumer—relied almost entirely on imported technology for large-scale ethylene production. HQC's successful development ended this dependency, making China the fourth country globally to master complete ethylene production technology.

HQC technology supports single-train capacities from 600 ktpa to 1,500 ktpa:​
