On August 28, 2025, the cracking furnace of the newly built 1.2 million tonnes per year (t/y) ethylene plant, the core unit of Jilin Petrochemicals' refining and chemical transformation and upgrading project, was put into operation and on August 31, qualified ethylene products were produced, achieving a successful start-up in one go.

At this point, Jilin Petrochemical's total ethylene production capacity has jumped to 1.9 million t/y, ranking among the top in the country.

The new 1.2 million t/y ethylene plant, under the EPC contracting role of Sinopec Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd. (SEI) and constructed by Sinopec Tenth Construction Co., Ltd., has a total investment of 4.177 billion yuan (tax inclusive) and covers an area of ​​119,000 square meters.

Utilizing domestically produced CBL cracking and LECT separation technologies, the plant boasts a 96% localization rate, 100% independent control of key core equipment, and technical indicators such as comprehensive energy consumption reach advanced domestic standards. This provides a replicable and scalable model for the independent development of large-scale ethylene technology.

Furthermore, the plant's environmental design indicators exceed national standards across the board, achieving both economic and ecological benefits while also safeguarding the environment, achieving a win-win situation for both economic and social benefits.

The pile foundation construction of the device started on November 12, 2022, the civil construction started on April 1, 2023, the mechanical construction was completed on November 30, 2024, the intermediate handover was carried out on April 30, 2025, and it was successfully started up on August 31, 2025, demonstrating the "Jilin Petrochemical Speed" throughout the process.
