Technology Unit
- Isoprene Finishing Section
- GTC Pygas C5 Utilization
- Short Name
- Isoprene Finishing
- Description
- Following the Extraction Section, High Purity Isoprene is produced in the Finishing Section, with the separated Stream returned to the C5 Splitter Section. Two Routes are available to separate Alkanes and remove Sulfur, both involving an Extractive Distillation Column (EDC) followed by a Solvent Recovery Column (SRC) that separates purified Isoprene from Heavies recycled to the Process. Option 1 produces 80% pure Isoprene in a simplified One-Stage Process consisting exclusively of EDC for Alkane Removal followed by SRC. Option 2 is a multistage, complex suite of Processes that produces 99.5+ pure Isoprene, with Sulfur Removal and Hydrogenation for Acetylene Removal preceeding the EDC, followed by SRC and by Superfractionation.
