Another possibility is to remove hydrogen from the system by reaction with chlorine gas in a column, yielding hydrogen chloride which can be recovered in a hydrochloric acid unit. The remaining chlorine gas can then be safely further condensed. This solution can be chosen if hydrochloric acid is a saleable product or if it can be used as a feedstock for downstream production, such as for ferric chloride.
