Technology Type
- Type
- Isobutylene Oxidation
- Process
- Oxidation
- Abbreviation
- Isobutylene is converted into Methacrolein (MAL) through Catalytic Oxidation. Isobutylene undergoes a Two-Step Oxidation to Methacrylic Acid (MA), which is either integrated in a Direct Oxidation Process from Isobutylene to MA in a Tandem Method, or MAL is separated from a Gas produced in the First Oxidation Step and afterwards carrying out the Second Oxidation Reaction of MAL into MA. Catalysts employed for oxidative conversion of Isobutylene into MA are supported Catalysts of the Mo-Bi Family. Alternatively to the Two-Step Oxidation and subsequent Esterification of MA into Methyl Methacrylate (MMA), the Intermediate MAL can undergo Direct Oxidative Esterification into MMA.
