Process

Controlled pyrolysis of organic precursors — primarily PAN or pitch fibres, but also biomass and coal-derived materials — in the range of 300–1,500°C. This process type underpins carbon fibre manufacturing and hard carbon production. Technologies include oxidative stabilisation furnaces, carbonisation furnaces, and inert atmosphere pyrolysis.
