Refining Conversion Processes

Description

Thermal conversion processes are refinery operations that upgrade heavy residual feedstocks through the application of heat alone — without a catalyst or hydrogen — to reduce viscosity, break down large hydrocarbon molecules, and recover lighter distillate fractions and characterised by the inevitable formation of a carbonaceous residue (coke or tar) as a by-product of the thermal decomposition reactions.
