Description

Hydrocyanation is a chemical reaction in which hydrogen cyanide (HCN) is added across a carbon–carbon multiple bond, such as an alkene or alkyne, to form a nitrile compound. In industrial practice, hydrocyanation is most notably used to convert 1,3-butadiene and HCN into adiponitrile, a key precursor for nylon production.
