ICI, Quimigal, and DuPont have developed Liquid-Phase Hydrogenation processes that operate at 90-200 °C and 100-600 kPa, using Slurry or Fluidized-Bed reactors. DuPont’s Liquid-Phase Hydrogenation Process uses a Platinum-Palladium Catalyst on a Carbon support, with Iron as Modifier, in a Plug-Flow Reactor. The Modifier provides good Catalyst life, High Activity, and Protection against Hydrogenation of the Aromatic Ring. The process can be divided into three main parts: Nitrobenzene Hydrogenation, Dehydration and Purification.
