Jointly owned with Dow Chemicals Canada, Ethylene 3 (E3) is one of the largest ethylene facilities of its kind.
Its design, large scale, increased operating efficiencies and lower energy usage per pound of product produced---E3 is able one of the lowest cost per pound ethylene plant in North
America.
- This world-scale facility, operated by NOVA Chemicals, officially opened October, 2000 by Premier Ralph Klein.
- Production capacity 2.8B pounds / 1.3M metric tonnes per year.
- Two 275 feet (83.8m) high flare stacks are required (vs one in each of the other facilities) because of scale and increased amount of hydrocarbon products to safely dispose of in the event of a process upset.
- Ethylene produced is used on site for production of polyethylene, and shipped by pipeline to the ME Global/Dow Chemical Canada Prentiss Site and petrochemical facilities in the Edmonton area.
