The olefin unit together with other production units for polyethylene, polypropylene, ethylene oxide, and ethylene glycol, and other side services and offsite is constructed on a piece of land with a surface area of 93 hectares in site No. 2 in Special Economic Zone in Bandar-e Imam Khomeini. Marun Petrochemical Co. was established on 21 January 1999, came into operation in 2007, and transferred to private sector in 2009. Marun Petrochemical Co., via having ethane recovery factory, produces chemical and polymeric products by recovering ethane from natural gas. Marun Petrochemical Co. has the production capacity of 1,100,000 tonnes ethylene, 200,000 tonnes of propylene, 300,000 tonnes of high density polyethylene, 300,000 tonnes of polypropylene, and more than 443,000 tonnes of various types of glycols.
