The SABIC Geleen site located at the Chemelot industrial park in Limburg, Netherlands, is a major integrated petrochemical manufacturing complexis and a leading European hub for the production of ethylene, propylene, polyethylene, polypropylene, and other key chemicals. It is also a center for innovation in recycling and pipe materials.
The site has historically operated two large naphtha steam crackers (Olefins 3 and Olefins 4), producing ethylene and propylene as primary building blocks for plastics and chemicals. As of 2024, Olefins 3 is being permanently closed, while Olefins 4 remains operational.
Downstream plants convert the cracker output into high-density polyethylene (HDPE), low-density polyethylene (LDPE), and polypropylene (PP).
The site also produces butadiene, benzene, methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE), hydrogen, pyrolysis gasoline, acetylene, and fuel oil
