Markus Hooks street view, showing the two PP plants, via Google Maps street view (accessed on Aug 10, 2025)The Braskem Marcus Hook facility is situated at 750 W. 10th Street in Marcus Hook, Pennsylvania, approximately 32 kilometers southwest of Philadelphia. This plant is one of Braskem America’s five polypropylene production units in the United States and plays a critical role in supplying both regional and export markets.
The site has an annual production capacity of 350,000 tonnes of polypropylene homopolymer, random and impact copolymers. The site receives polymer-grade propylene via pipeline from nearby petrochemical complexes, ensuring a reliable and cost‐effective raw material supply. It has on‐site propylene storage and handling facilities.
Oct 3, 1994 -- EPSILON PRODUCTS CO. will double polypropylene capacity at its Marcus Hook, Pa., plant using Unipol technology licensed by Union Carbide Corp. and Shell Chemical Co. The new unit, due on stream by third quarter 1996, will increase the company's total polypropylene capacity to 720 million lb/year. (Source: Oil&Gas Journal, Industry Briefs)
Note: Epsilon Products Company was the original owner–operator of the Marcus Hook polypropylene plant before Braskem’s acquisition. It was a joint-venture between Sunoco Inc. and Westlake Chemical (formerly Borden Chemicals), formed in the mid-1980s to operate a world-scale PP facility on the Sunoco Marcus Hook refinery site. The above announcement refers solely to adding a second Unipol™ gas-phase reactor train at Marcus Hook. The expansion took the Marcus Hook plant from roughly 360 million lb/year (about 164 kt) to 720 million lb/year (about 326 kt) by Q3 1996 using Unipol™ PP technology licensed from Union Carbide and Shell Chemical (now licensed from W.R. Grace). The site's Streetview photo shows that the first train has one single gas phase reactor, whereas the second train has dual gas phase reactors, whici is aligned with Braskem reporting that the facility produces impact copolymers.
