The Silver Eagle Evanston refinery was built in the late 1980’s and started up in 1989 by Lair Petroleum. Lair briefly operated the refinery until they were purchased by Oxbow Hydrocarbons later in 1989. Oxbow, owned and operated the plant until 1996, In 1996, the refinery was purchased by Silver Eagle Refining and has been operated by Silver Eagle ever since. The Silver Eagle Evanston refinery primarily produces Regular and Premium gasoline. Feedstocks are condensates that are brought in via pipeline and trucks. The condensate tower separates the condensate into naphtha, diesel, and condensate bottoms. The naphtha is sent through a naphtha splitter that splits the stream into a light and heavy naphtha. The light naphtha is charged to a saturation unit to meet specifications and then blended to make different grades of gasoline.
