The Kasim Fuel Refinery is built on approximately 80 hectares in Malabam village, Seget district, Sorong regency, Papua, adjacent to Petro China's Kasim Marine Terminal (KMT), about 90 km south of Sorong city. The refinery has been operating since July 1997.

Design Philosophy

Kasim Fuel Refinery processes local crude from Papua's Bird's Head region. This location was chosen near the Petro China area considering:

  • Reduced transportation costs due to proximity to crude sources and markets
  • Lower investment costs by utilizing existing Petro China facilities (dock, access road, tanks, etc.)
  • Sufficient area available for future expansion
  • Remote forest location (far from residential areas)

Planning Basis

Kasim Fuel Refinery has a 10,000 barrel/day capacity, designed to process Walio (60%) and Salawati (40%) crude oil. Products produced:

  • Fuel Gas: 969 Barrels/Day
  • Premium: 1,987 Barrels/Day (Unleaded)
  • Kerosene: 1,831 Barrels/Day
  • Diesel: 2,439 Barrels/Day
  • Residue: 3,390 Barrels/Day

RU VII contributes about 15% of total MALIRJA (Maluku & Irian Jaya) fuel needs.

Technical Facilities

Refinery Unit VII Sorong is designed to process Walio-Salawati crude (60%-40% composition) with 0.56% wt sulfur content, 2.0 ptb salt, BS & W 0.10% vol.

Main Processing Units:

  1. Crude Distilling Unit (CDU): 10,000 bbl/day capacity
  2. Naphtha Hydrotreater Unit (NHTU): 2,000 bbl/day capacity
  3. Catalytic Reforming Unit (CRU): 2,000 bbl/day capacity
  4. Boiler: 10 ton/hour capacity at 12 kg/cm² operating pressure
  5. Diesel Power Plant: 3 units @ 1200 kVA capacity
  6. Storage Tanks: For feed, intermediate, and final products:
The tank installation at RU VII Kasim Refinery was built to store feed, intermediate, and final products from the processing units.
