The Lindsey Oil Refinery, located in North Killingholme, North Lincolnshire, is one of the UK’s largest and most technically advanced oil refineries. Commissioned in 1968, it was the first refinery in the country to process North Sea oil and has played a pivotal role in supplying fuel to petrol stations and airports across the UK. The refinery has a processing capacity of approximately 113,000 barrels of oil per day (about 5.4 million tonnes annually), and employs around 420 people.
Spanning a 500-acre site near the Humber Estuary, Lindsey features extensive infrastructure, including numerous processing units, a large tank farm, rail and road loading bays, and connections to multiple pipelines and marine terminals. Over its history, the site has continually expanded and modernized, adding units such as a catalytic cracker, alkylation and visbreaking units, and a distillate hydrotreater to improve efficiency and product quality.
Originally developed as a joint venture between Total and Fina, the refinery became wholly owned by Total before being acquired by the Prax Group in March 2021.
