Zhongmei Mengda Wushen Zhao Complex (中煤蒙大乌审召煤制烯烃综合项目 / 内蒙古中煤蒙大新能源化工厂), also known as Inner Mongolia Zhongmei Mengda New Energy Chemical Plant, is an integrated coal-to-olefins facility that converts methanol (derived from coal-based syngas) into light olefins and subsequently polymerizes these olefins into polyethylene and polypropylene products. The facility represents a complete value chain from methanol feedstock through to finished polymer products suitable for plastics manufacturing. The facility was commissioned in April 2016, with production commencing in stages throughout 2016.

Plant Capacities and Process Units

Methanol Synthesis Unit: 

  • Capacity: 1.8 million tonnes per year (as intermediate feedstock for downstream DMTO unit)​

  • Feedstock: Syngas (synthesis gas containing H₂ and CO) supplied by China Coal Ordos Energy & Chemical Co., Ltd.'s BGL gasification units located at the adjacent Tuke Industrial Park

  • Capacity: 600,000 tonnes per year of mixed olefins (ethylene + propylene)​
  • Methanol Feed Rate: 225 tonnes per hour (pure basis), equivalent to 1.8 million tonnes per year​
  • Technology/Licensor: DMTO proprietary technology jointly developed by Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics (Chinese Academy of Sciences), Emerging Energy Technology Co., Ltd., and several partners.
  • Technology Significance: This was the 10th commercial DMTO plant globally and represented a major milestone for indigenous Chinese coal-to-olefins technology.

Olefin Separation Unit:

  • Technology/Licensor: W.R. Grace & Co. - UNIPOL PP gas-phase fluidized bed technology​

Strategic Integration

The Wushen Zhao facility operates in close coordination with China Coal Ordos Energy & Chemical Co., Ltd.'s Tuke Industrial Park facilities, which provide dedicated syngas supply from BGL gasification units. This organizational structure represents an integrated coal chemical cluster where gasification infrastructure is shared among sister companies under the China Coal Energy umbrella, optimizing capital efficiency and operational coordination.
