Evonik Mobile (Theodore), Alabama Facility is Evonik's largest chemical manufacturing facility in North America.
Originally built by two Evonik predecessor companies (Degussa and Hüls) that independently chose the same location, production in Teodore began December 1976 with Aerosil® fumed silica facility and power generation units.
Operating Units:
- 27+ operating units representing all Evonik business divisions
- Third-party tenant operations: Bayer, BASF, United Initiators, and QUAB also operate production units on-site utilizing Evonik's infrastructure
Major Product Lines
- Sodium Methylate (Alkoxides): 90,000 metric tons per year capacity (expanded 2018-2021)
- Hydrogen Peroxide: Large-scale production for pulp/paper bleaching and industrial applications
- AEROSIL® Fumed Silica: Pyrogenic silica for coatings, adhesives, and specialty applications
- ROHACELL® Rigid Foam: Lightweight structural foam for aerospace and automotive
- MetAMINO® (DL-Methionine): Animal feed additive for poultry and livestock nutrition
- Mepron® (Rumen-Protected Methionine): Specialty feed additive for dairy cattle
- Methyl Mercaptan Plant: $176.5 million new facility (commissioned 2024) for methionine intermediate production
