Fujian Meide Petrochemical Fuzhou complex | Baidu, Nov 2023

Fujian Meide Petrochemical Co., Ltd. operates one of China’s most advanced and largest propane dehydrogenation (PDH) complexes at the Zhongjing Petrochemical Science and Technology Park in Jiangyin Industrial Zone, Fuqing, Fuzhou, Fujian Province. 

• The site’s first PDH unit, with a capacity of 660,000 tons per year, began commercial operations in February 2021 and utilizes Honeywell UOP’s Oleflex™ process technology, which is recognized for its high efficiency and reliability in converting propane to propylene.
• Fujian Meide has constructed a second, world-scale PDH unit with a capacity of 900,000 tons per year, employing Lummus Technology’s CATOFIN^® process and Clariant’s tailor-made catalysts, including their Heat Generating Material (HGM). This new unit, scheduled for startup in 2023 but as of mid-2025, there is no explicit public confirmation of commissioning or commercial operation. The unit is fully constructed and is expected to be among the world’s largest, using state-of-the-art technology for energy efficiency and reliability.

The feedstock for both units is imported propane, which is received via the group’s dedicated LPG import and storage infrastructure.

The main product is high-purity propylene, which is piped directly to the group’s downstream polypropylene plants and also supports other chemical operations in the region. The total capacity of both PDH plants is 1.56 million tonnes per year at full scale.
