In Böhlen, Dow operates a steam cracker that converts crude petroleum into basic chemicals such as ethylene and propylene. Some of these are processed directly in Böhlen into polyurethane feedstocks. The majority is transported via pipeline to Schkopau and Leuna, where they are converted into plastics used for packaging and film, among other applications.
