Entity
Xinjiang Tianye Co., Ltd.
Predominantly Chemicals Operations

Description

Xinjiang Tianye Co., Ltd. operates an integrated petrochemical and chemical complex located in Shihezi, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, China, that commenced commercial operations in 2008.

Production Capacities

The facility operates an integrated chlor-alkali and coal-to-chemicals complex with the following major production capacities (as of 2024-2025):

  • Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) Resin: 1.34 million tons/year total capacity, comprising 1.14 million tons/year of general-purpose PVC, 100,000 tons/year of specialty resins, and 100,000 tons/year of paste resin
  • Caustic Soda (Sodium Hydroxide): 970,000 tons/year using ion-exchange membrane electrolysis technology
  • Calcium Carbide: 2.13 million tons/year
  • Ethanol: 250,000 tons/year of high-purity ethanol capacity
  • Cement: 5.35 million tons/year produced from calcium carbide residue and other waste materials through integrated circular economy processes
  • 1,4-Butanediol (BDO): 210,000 tons/year capacity, though only portions operate continuously (typically 120,000 tons/year active)

Process Technologies and Integration

The complex utilizes coal as the primary feedstock for an integrated production chain. The chlor-alkali production process employs ion-exchange membrane electrolysis of sodium chloride brine to produce liquid caustic soda, chlorine gas, and hydrogen, which subsequently undergo further reactions to produce PVC. The facility operates a complete circular economy model, utilizing calcium carbide residue and other industrial waste streams to manufacture cement through new dry-process technology.

Power Generation and Infrastructure

The complex operates captive thermoelectric power generation facilities with total installed capacity of 1.26 gigawatts, comprising 2×300 MW and 2×330 MW self-supplied thermal power stations. This integrated power infrastructure supports the energy-intensive chemical manufacturing processes and provides operational cost advantages.
