Description

Hydrotreated Vacuum Gas Oil (HT VGO) is a heavy petroleum intermediate produced by catalytically treating Vacuum Gas Oil (VGO) with hydrogen in a hydrotreater (hydrodesulfurization / hydrodenitrogenation unit), typically at temperatures of 340–420 °C and pressures of 60–150 bar in the presence of a sulfided CoMo, NiMo, or NiW catalyst.

The hydrotreating process removes sulfur, nitrogen, and metallic contaminants (Ni, V) from the feed, saturates aromatics and olefins, and partially converts heavy molecules. The result is a low-sulfur, low-nitrogen, cleaner intermediate stream ideally suited as:

Typical properties:

  • Boiling range: ~350–565 °C (660–1050 °F)

  • Specific gravity: 0.88–0.94 (lower than untreated VGO)

  • Sulfur content: typically 0.05–0.3 wt% (vs. 2–4 wt% in straight-run VGO)

  • Nitrogen: significantly reduced (typically <500–1000 ppm)

Note: HT VGO is a complex hydrocarbon mixture (UVCB substance), not a single chemical compound; therefore, no unique molecular formula or IUPAC name applies.
