Dry Gas is a form of natural gas that consists predominantly of methane (CH₄), typically comprising at least 85% of its composition, with minor amounts of ethane and negligible heavier hydrocarbons. It is defined as natural gas from which the liquefiable hydrocarbon fractions (condensate, propane, butane, and heavier components) have been removed, along with any non-hydrocarbon gases — such as water vapor, CO₂, H₂S, and nitrogen — present in quantities sufficient to render the gas unmarketable.

Dry gas does not form liquid condensate at common operating pressures and temperatures. A typical composition by volume is approximately: methane 94%, ethane 4.7%, propane 0.8%, butane 0.2%, and nitrogen 0.3%. In geological terms, dry gas is characterized by a gas-to-oil ratio (GOR) exceeding 100,000 scf/STB, distinguishing it clearly from wet gas.

Also known as consumer-grade natural gas, dry gas is measured at standard conditions of 60°F and 14.73 psia. It is widely used as a fuel for power generation and as a petrochemical feedstock for the production of fertilizers, methanol, DME, and other derivatives.
