Koch, Inc. (formerly Koch Industries, Inc.) is one of the world's largest privately held conglomerates, headquartered in Wichita, Kansas.  The company rebranded from "Koch Industries" to "Koch, Inc." effective the third quarter of 2024, dropping "Industries" from its name to better reflect its diversification beyond its industrial origins into technology, investments, and other sectors. With annual revenues of approximately $125 billion, it operates across a diverse array of industries, including manufacturing, refining, chemicals, energy, fibers and polymers, minerals, fertilizers, forest and consumer products, technology, and investments. The company employs approximately 122,000 people in over 60 countries, with about half of its business based in the United States.

Corporate Structure Change

As part of the June 2024 rebrand, Koch, Inc. became the new top-level holding company, while a newly created, financially rated subsidiary called Koch Companies, LLC now holds Koch Industries (the legacy operating name) and the various subsidiaries historically owned under it. This followed on from an earlier 2022 realignment that had already consolidated several subsidiaries — including Koch Ag & Energy Solutions, Koch Engineered Solutions, and Koch Minerals & Trading — under Koch Solutions, LLC. Axios described the move as signaling a deliberate departure from Koch's origins as an oil-refining enterprise, aligning the name with the company's present and future diversified operations.

History and Evolution

Founded in 1940 by Fred C. Koch as the Wood River Oil and Refining Company, the business began as an oil refining company, built on Fred C. Koch's innovative thermal cracking process for crude oil. The company underwent several name changes, becoming Rock Island Oil & Refining Company before adopting the "Koch Industries" name in 1968, in honor of its founder following his death in 1967.
