Description

Ampol Refineries (Qld) Pty Ltd (ABN 46 008 425 581) is the refining subsidiary of the Ampol group and the owner-operator of the Lytton Refinery at Corio… (correction: Lytton is in Queensland, on the Brisbane River) — at Lytton, Brisbane, Queensland, one of only two crude oil refineries operating in Australia. The entity is a legacy company of the group’s refining operations: it was historically named Caltex Refineries (Qld) Pty Ltd and was renamed following the group’s rebranding from Caltex Australia to Ampol in 2020. Through its history it has held the group’s Queensland refining interests, and until its closure in 2014–2015 also operated in connection with the group’s Kurnell refinery in New South Wales.

The company’s principal asset is the Lytton Refinery, commissioned in 1965 by Amoco Australia and acquired by the group in 1984 through Caltex’s acquisition of Amoco’s Australian refining and marketing operations. The refinery has a crude processing capacity of approximately 109,000 barrels per day and produces petrol, ultra-low sulphur diesel, jet fuel, LPG, and bitumen, supplying the majority of Queensland’s refined product demand and jet fuel to Brisbane Airport. Refining operations are supported by the Australian Government’s Fuel Security Services Payment program, under which payments to Australia’s two remaining refineries extend to mid-2027.

The company is a wholly owned subsidiary within the Ampol group, whose ultimate parent is ASX-listed Ampol Limited.
