Description

Lorestan Petrochemical Company (شرکت پتروشیمی لرستان), also known as Khorramabad Petrochemical Complex or Lorestan Petrochemical Complex, is an Iranian polyethylene producer specializing in high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE), alongside 1-butene production. Founded in 2008 (1386-1387 Solar Hijri), the company is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bakhtar Petrochemical Company, operating as part of the West Ethylene Pipeline (WEP) corridor development strategy.

Lorestan Petrochemical represents a cornerstone investment in the economic development of Lorestan Province and western Iran more broadly. The company was established to achieve multiple strategic national objectives including promoting economic growth and industrial development in historically underdeveloped regions, creating employment opportunities in western Iran, developing downstream petrochemical value chains, utilizing natural gas resources through conversion to high-value petrochemical products, and strengthening Iran's position as a regional polyethylene exporter. The catalyst production unit carries particular strategic importance as it demonstrates Iran's capability to develop critical upstream technologies domestically despite international sanctions pressure on its petrochemical sector.
