Qatar Shell GTL Limited is the dedicated legal entity responsible for the operation of the Pearl GTL plant, the world’s largest gas-to-liquids facility, located in Ras Laffan Industrial City, Qatar. The company is a joint venture between QatarEnergy (formerly Qatar Petroleum), the state-owned energy company of Qatar, and Shell, a global leader in energy and petrochemicals. Shell acts as the operator of the plant, bringing its proprietary GTL technology and project management expertise to the partnership.

The origins of Qatar Shell GTL Limited trace back to the mid-2000s, when the Development and Production Sharing Agreement (DPSA) was signed between Shell and the Government of Qatar. The agreement, finalized around July 2004, set the legal and operational framework for the construction and management of the Pearl GTL project, which officially launched in 2006. The first stone was laid in February 2007, and after several years of construction, the plant began commercial operations in 2011, with full capacity reached in 2012.
