ExxonMobil Asia Pacific Pte Ltd is a major subsidiary of ExxonMobil, headquartered in Singapore, and stands as one of the country’s largest foreign manufacturing investors, with over S$25 billion in fixed asset investments. The company has operated in Singapore for more than 130 years and employs over 3,500 people. Its operations are extensive, encompassing an integrated world-scale refining and petrochemical complex, a lubricant plant, and a fuels terminal, making it a key supplier of fuels, lubricants, petrochemicals, and liquefied natural gas to customers and markets across the Asia-Pacific region.

The Singapore refinery is made up of two original refineries: one built by Mobil and the other by Esso (Exxon’s international brand). Specifically, the Mobil refinery was established in Jurong (Pioneer Road) in 1966, and the Esso refinery started up at Pulau Ayer Chawan (now part of Jurong Island) in 1970. After the merger of Exxon and Mobil in 1999, these two refineries were integrated and now operate as a single facility under ExxonMobil.

Key Operations and Facilities:

  • Refining: ExxonMobil Asia Pacific owns and operates a 592,000-barrel-per-day refinery, which is fully integrated with the Singapore Chemical Plant. This complex is one of the largest in the region and produces a wide range of fuels, base oils, waxes, and aromatics for both local use and export.

  • Petrochemicals: The Singapore Chemical Plant has an ethylene production capacity of 1.9 million tonnes per year and manufactures commodity and performance plastics, butyl rubber, aromatics, and oxo alcohols—materials essential for industries such as automotive, cosmetics, and food packaging.

  • Lubricants: The lubricant plant is ExxonMobil’s largest in Asia Pacific for greases and produces the flagship Mobil 1 engine oil, serving customers in Singapore and over 30 countries and territories.

  • Fuels Terminal and LPG: The company operates a fuels terminal and an LPG bottling plant in Jurong, supporting the distribution of gasoline, diesel, renewable diesel, and LPG for commercial and domestic use.
