Alpek Polyester Americas LLC, formerly DAK Americas LLC, was formed in 2001 when Alfa, a major Mexican industrial conglomerate, acquired DuPont’s polyester fibers, monomers, and resins businesses. The origins of the DAK name trace back to the late 1990s, when DuPont and Alfa had joint ventures in polyester production, particularly in Mexico, under the name "Dupont-Akra Polyester". "Akra" was Alfa's local polyester business. When these assets were consolidated and expanded into the U.S. and the Americas, the new entity was named DAK Americas.

Today, Alpek Polyester Americas is a major subsidiary of Alpek, S.A.B. de C.V., specializing in the production of polyester-based products and serving as a key part of Alpek's Polyester business segment. Alpek Polyester Americas’ core businesses are comprised of Terephthalic Acid (TPA), PET Container Resins (PET) and Polyester Staple Fibers(PSF). Headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, Alpek Polyester Americas is one of the largest integrated producers of PET (polyethylene terephthalate) resins and polyester staple fibers (PSF) in the Americas.
