This massive Babco Modernization Program (BMP) of the Sitra Refinery will boost Babco Refining capacity from 267,000 to 400,000 bpd, featuring cutting-edge technology including a 65,000 bpd LC-Fining residue hydrocracking unit - among the largest globally with fewer than a dozen such units worldwide.

The expansion represents nearly 90 years of continuous innovation at the first refinery built in the Arabian Gulf outside Iran (1936). From new 225,000 bpd crude distillation units to advanced sulfur recovery systems, this modernization positions Sitra as one of the most sophisticated refineries in the Middle East.
