The 'DREAM Refinery — India' Integrated Refining & Petrochemical Project is now live on ppPLUS
DREAM Refinery Project Company
DREAM Refinery — India is a model integrated refinery-petrochemical complex created on ppPLUS as a virtual company, representing a next-generation grassroots Indian refinery conceived for a maximum of flexibility between distillate fuels and petrochemicals, with a design orientation toward maximizing petrochemical output. Located on India’s east coast in the Tamil Nadu region, the complex addresses India’s strategic push to rebalance refining capacity eastward — strengthening energy security, leveraging emerging Bay of Bengal offshore exploration, and positioning for trade with the Southeast Asia-Pacific region.
Key Configuration Highlights
- 20 million tonnes per annum crude throughput (single-train crude distillation)
- Steam cracker targeting 1.7–2.0 million tonnes per annum ethylene (multi-feed: LPG, light/heavy naphtha, light kerosene)
- Integrated aromatics complex of 1.2–1.5 million tonnes (BTX/PX maximization)
- High-severity Petro FCC targeting ~20% propylene yield, with off-gas ethylene recovery
- Bottom-of-the-barrel upgrading via slurry hydrocracker and delayed coker combination
- Petcoke-fired CFB steam generation and grid-integrated power strategy
- Total petrochemical conversion rate of 40–43% of crude intake
Roadmap
The base configuration serves as a reference case for comparative scenarios to be developed on the platform, including green hydrogen integration, CO₂ abatement and CCS, SAF production, coal/petcoke gasification-to-chemicals, renewable power integration, green ammonia, and SMR nuclear power.
Subsequent development phases will cover cost estimation, financing and bankability, and implementation planning — with the intention of opening selected scenarios to the ppPLUS community for collaborative evaluation and challenge.
