Aluminerie de Bécancour Inc. (ABI), located in the Bécancour Waterfront Industrial Park in Quebec, is a major primary aluminum smelter with an annual production capacity of approximately 450,000 metric tonnes. A joint venture between Alcoa (74.95%) and Rio Tinto (25.05%), the facility utilizes the Hall-Héroult electrolytic process powered by renewable energy from Hydro-Québec, resulting in a lower carbon footprint compared to global averages. The plant’s strategic location features access to a year-round deep-water pier on the St. Lawrence River, facilitating the bulk import of alumina feedstock and the international export of finished aluminum products.
