Aluminerie Alouette is a 600,000-tonne per year aluminium smelter in Sept-Îles, Quebec. Commissioned in 1992, the facility uses around 1,000 MW of power. The site's electric demand is monitored continuously, as a service interruption could lead to the solidification of the pots. The site is known for its high energy efficiency and importance to the economy of the region.a,b
The facility is a joint venture of AMAG Austria Metall AG (20%), Hydro Aluminium (20%), Investissement Québec (6.67%), Marubeni Corporation (13.33%) and Rio Tinto (40%).
