As detailed in this technology description, DOW had previously filed patents mentioning high-pressure polymerization of ethylene in an autoclave reactor and a tubular reactor connected in series with said autoclave reactor in that sequential order. The inventors cited in US4496698A, "PROCESS FOR PRODUCING POLYETHYLENE HAVING CONSTANT PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL PROPERTIES", filed 26th Jul 1982, are of Terneuzen. Hence, it is presumed that the LDPE plant in Terneuzen is employing a technology combining an autoclave reactor with a tubular tail. As long as we have not modelled this technology, a generic autoclave process is selected.
