About Dow in Stade
Since construction began in 1969 and production began in 1972, the Stade plant has developed into one of the most important and largest industrial companies in Lower Saxony. Over 4 billion euros have been invested to date in the ultra-modern, integrated plant complex on the Bützflether Sand. At Dow in Stade, around 1,100 of the company's own employees and several hundred members of contract companies produce around three million tons of basic and specialty chemicals annually in 10 plants covering an area of around 550 hectares for the company's own use and for international customers. The seaport and the large rock salt deposits in the region also contribute to Stade being a strategically important location for the chemical industry.

Chlorine in particular is an important basic material for production in the plant. It serves as a starting material for numerous other production stages. This is how preliminary products for polyurethane are produced, for example. This is the basic material for the thermal insulation of heating or cooling units and is used for sports shoes and clothing or in the automotive industry as a high-tech adhesive or for interior paneling.

Sustainable chemistry
Every action we take has an impact on the environment that surrounds us. In concrete terms, this means: We design our processes in such a way that we further reduce the impact on nature and protect the environment and resources. For example, at the Stade plant we use highly developed processes for wastewater treatment, closed material cycles and the recycling of residual materials and products.

Local commitment
For us, social responsibility means using our materials to improve everyone's life. It also means having a positive impact on the communities in which our plants operate. That is why we are involved in the Stade region to help further improve the quality of life. Non-profit initiatives in the social or environmental field are supported, as is local educational work - both with financial contributions from the company and through the active commitment of employees.
Dow's local donation program in Stade is part of its commitment to the region and is aimed at organizations that are committed to sustainable projects in areas such as education, the environment or social issues.
