CSPC mainly produces olefin and derivative products, supplying the domestic market as raw materials while providing customers with high quality service. As the one of the operating biggest single-site ethylene plant in China, CSPC's complex consists of 2 phases of projects with the ethylene capacity of 2,200 ktpa, and supplying more than 6 million tonnes of high quality products to the market every year. 

Phase I (Nanhai Project, C1)

CSPC Phase I (Nanhai Project, C1) started commercial operation in early 2006. C1 includes 11 major process units, utilities, storage and shipping facilities, as well as environmental protection facilities. It adopts 13 international leading technologies including Shell's proprietary technologies and utilizes modern management systems and international standards in design, construction and operation. C1 has achieved 1 million tpa ethylene production capacity since 2012 and it has been supplying approximate 2.8 million tonnes petrochemical products to the market every year.

CSPC Phase 2 project (C2)

CSPC Phase 2 (C2) started up in April 2018, including an ongoing project to build an ethylene cracker with 1.2 million tpa ethylene production capacity and multiple downstream derivatives units, which CSPC officially assumed ownership from CNOOC in November, 2016. The C2 expansion includes also SMPO/POD units. A total of 17 domestic and international industry-leading technologies including Shell's proprietary OMEGA, SMPO and Polyols technologies are applied to C2 project. This increases the volume and diversity of CSPC's high quality product range, as well as enhances overall energy efficiency.

CSPC Phase 3 Project (C3)[1]

  • The 1.6 million tons/year ethylene unit, which is the largest ethylene cracking unit in China and the world so far, adopts the Technip process package. The cracking furnace of the ethylene cracking unit adopts the USC ultra-selective cracking furnace of TechnipFMC (formerly S&W), and the separation part adopts the pre-depropanization and pre-hydrogenation ethylene separation technology of TechnipFMC.
  • The 305,000 tons/year butadiene extraction unit adopts the Lummus process package.
  • The 1.46 million tons/year pyrolysis gasoline hydrogenation unit adopts the AXENS process package.
  • The 1.1 million tons/year aromatics extraction unit and the 1 million tons/year ethylbenzene (EB) unit are RIPP's process packages.
  • The 600,000 tons/year metallocene linear low-density polyethylene (mLLDPE) unit adopts Univation's gas-phase fluidized bed process technology.
  • The 500,000 tons/year polypropylene (PP) unit adopts the LyondellBasell's Spherizone process technology.
  • The 50,000 tons/year polyalphaolefin (PAO) unit adopts the Neste process package.
  • The 45,000 tons/year ethylene oxide-ethylene glycol (EO-EG) unit, 400,000 tons/year linear alpha-olefin (LAO) unit, 130,000 tons/year isomerization and disproportionation (ID) unit, 130,000 tons/year Shell hydroformylation (SHF) unit, 875,000/400,000 tons/year styrene-propylene oxide (SM-PO) unit, 450,000 tons/year polyether polyol (DMC-POD) unit and 100,000 tons/year polymer polyol (POP-POD) unit all use Shell's own process packages.
