Lanzhou Petrochemical is the first large-scale refining base in West China that is constructed with a 10Mt/a refining capacity and 700kt/a ethylene production capacity. The company has a primary crude processing capacity of 10.5 million tons per annum with a compatible secondary processing capacity, all powered by the leading refining/chemical processing techniques in China. Lanzhou Petrochemical has 90-plus production installations for gasoline, kerosene, diesel fuel and lube oil base stock, etc. In addition to key chemical products like ethylene and synthetic ammonia, the company can produce a wide range of 400 specifications (grades) of petrochemical products, including synthetic resin, synthetic rubber, polypropylene, fertilizer, catalytic cracking catalyst, fine chemicals and organic agents, etc. (CNPC website)

The company's total assets amount to 23.5 billion yuan, with an annual crude oil processing capacity of 10.5 million tons, an ethylene production capacity of 700,000 tons, a downstream polyolefin product production capacity of 1.13 million tons, and a fertilizer production capacity of 520,000 tons. Its annual sales revenue is nearly 40 billion yuan, and the company's scale, profitability, competitiveness and development capabilities have been significantly enhanced. (Baidu encyclopedia)

 20th Jan 2024 | Lanzhou Petrochemical's 1.2 million tons/year ethylene renovation project

The Lanzhou Petrochemical Company Transformation and Upgrading Ethylene Renovation Project is a renovation and expansion project. The construction site is located in the Xigu Chemical Park in Lanzhou City, which was approved by the Gansu Provincial Government. It involves the Xigu Refinery and Chemical Plant of Lanzhou Petrochemical. The renovation plan of this project can be divided into three parts:

(1) Ethylene transformation: Build a new 1.2 million tons/year ethylene cracking + 1.2 million tons/year quenching unit, build a new 800,000 tons/year ethylene post-separation unit, shut down 460,000 tons/year ethylene cracking + quenching unit, and reuse 460,000 tons/year ethylene post-separation, forming a one-head-two-tail structure. Shut down 240,000 tons/year of small ethylene, and strive to reach a total ethylene production capacity of 1.2 million tons/year.

(2) Refinery transformation: After the implementation of the project, the types and volumes of crude oil processed in the refinery system will remain unchanged. By adaptively transforming three existing units, namely the 1.2 million tons/year catalytic cracking unit, the 3 million tons/year diesel hydrotreating unit, and the 1.2 million tons/year diesel hydrotreating unit, the goal of increasing the production of ethylene raw materials will be achieved. At the same time, a new PSA unit and a carbon two recovery unit will be built.

(3) Chemical downstream supporting facilities: Build 7 new production units (20,000 tons/year octene-1, 100,000 tons/year POE, 140,000 tons/year EVA, 450,000 tons/year FDPE, 400,000 tons/year polypropylene, 700,000 tons/year pyrolysis gasoline hydrogenation, and 700,000 tons/year aromatics extraction units), and convert the existing 170,000 tons/year high-density polyethylene unit into a 60,000 tons/year ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene unit.

Through the implementation of the transformation and upgrading ethylene transformation project, Lanzhou Petrochemical's finished oil output will be reduced to 5.3049 million tons/year, and the total amount of fuel oil will be reduced by 1.2681 million tons/year. Specifically, diesel will be reduced by 1.5865 million tons/year, gasoline will increase by 150,900 tons/year, and kerosene will increase by 167,500 tons/year. Chemical products will increase by 1.4 million tons, including 290,000 tons of new high-end polyolefin products such as POE, UHMWPE, and EVA, 375,600 tons of high-end polypropylene products, 200,000 tons of high-density polyethylene products, and 175,400 tons of low-density polyethylene products, totaling 1.041 million tons.
