Development Phases
- Anqing Petrochemical was established in July 1974, beginning its first entrepreneurial phase by building refining and fertilizer facilities, filling the gap in Anhui Province's petrochemical industry.
- The second entrepreneurial phase in the 1990s saw the construction of acrylonitrile/acrylic fiber projects, establishing an integrated oil-chemical-fiber-power structure. This elevated Anqing Petrochemical to the ranks of national extra-large integrated enterprises, achieving a 5 million tons/year comprehensive processing capacity. On January 9, 2009, the group company and Anhui Provincial Government signed a strategic cooperation agreement to build an 8 million tons/year crude oil processing integrated refining project, establishing Anqing as a major national petrochemical industrial base.
- The third entrepreneurial phase began on January 18, 2010, with construction completing on September 28, 2013. A new development phase started on December 15, 2017, with the main project construction officially launching on June 25, 2021, completing handover on December 31, 2022, and beginning production on June 29, 2023.
Current Status
Currently, Anqing Petrochemical has developed into a major integrated petroleum, chemical, fiber, and thermal power enterprise with:
- Annual operating income of 50 billion yuan
- Tax contribution exceeding 10 billion yuan
- 8 million tons/year refining capacity
- 2,000 tons/day Shell coal gasification unit
- 47 major production units including:
- 330,000 tons/year synthetic ammonia
- 210,000 tons/year acrylonitrile
- 300,000 tons/year polypropylene
- 70,000 tons/year acrylic fiber
- 500,000 tons/year ethylbenzene-styrene
Refinery and Conversion Plant Structural Adjustment Project

On July 6, with the last unit, the 400,000 tons/year ethylbenzene-styrene unit, producing qualified products, all units of the Anqing Petrochemical Refinery Conversion Plant Structural Adjustment Project were successfully started up safely and environmentally friendly at one time.
The Anqing Petrochemical Refinery and Conversion Plant Structural Adjustment Project is led by a 3 million tons/year heavy oil catalytic cracking unit, which converts heavy crude oil into ethylene, propylene and BTX aromatics, and further produces chemical raw materials such as styrene and polypropylene, effectively enhancing the adaptability and flexibility of the company's production structure to changes in demand. Among them, the 3 million tons/year heavy oil catalytic cracking unit is the world's first RTC process heavy oil catalytic cracking unit, and the 400,000 tons/year ethylbenzene-styrene unit is currently the largest dry gas process ethylbenzene unit in China.
After the project was handed over, Anqing Petrochemical adopted a "reverse driving" approach, following the established plan and working with a chart and a meter to advance, sorting out the network plan and the completion of major nodes every day, updating in real time, correcting deviations in a timely manner, and quickly coordinating and solving problems that occurred during the commissioning. The construction personnel of each unit entered the site in advance to efficiently promote the single-machine commissioning, linkage commissioning, purging and airtightness, etc., to ensure seamless connection between engineering and production, and to achieve the full completion and commissioning of the project as scheduled.
