Former SINOPEC Zhanjiang Dongxing Petrochemical Co., now merged in ZhonKe, was an integrated, large-scale oil refining and petrochemical site with a crude oil processing capacity of 5 million tons per year. The site had 28 sets of production plants and matching utilities, such as atmospheric and vacuum distillation, catalytic cracking, reforming, hydrogenation, polypropylene, aromatics extraction, gas separation and sulfur recovery. The main products included gasoline and diesel, LPG, naphtha, benzene, xylems, polypropylene, heavy oil, etc.

ZhongKe Refinery & Petrochemical Co. site is developped in two phases. The first phase of the project design includes a 10 million tonne/year oil refining project, an 800,000 tonne/year ethylene project, and related auxiliary projects. The proposed refining and chemical integration project includes 15 million tons/year oil refining capacity, a 1.2 million tons/year ethylene unit as well as two downstream units with a capacity of 700,000 tons/year of PP and 450,000 tons/year of PE. Meanwhile, the scheduled start-up date was undisclosed at the time of publication. Sinopec Zhongke started up the first phase of the project in June 2020. The company’s crude oil and ethylene capacities increased by 10 million barrels/year and 800,000 tons/year, respectively.
