Site

The Kingston site began operations in June 1942 as Canada’s first and the world’s second nylon 6,6 polymer plant. Initially established by DuPont Canada as a defense project during World War II, it produced nylon fibers for parachutes and other military applications. Over the decades, the site evolved into a major center for innovation in nylon fiber technology, particularly in automotive airbags and industrial fibers. The plant became part of INVISTA following the acquisition of DuPont’s textile operations by Koch Industries in 2004.

The plant receives key intermediates such as adipic acid and hexamethylenediamine (HMD) for nylon salt synthesis. Nylon salt is polymerized to produce nylon 6,6 resin in advanced batch and continuous polymerization technologies. The resin is processed into fibers and technical yarns with state-of-the-art spinning and drawing lines for high-tenacity fibers for end-use in automotive airbags, industrial textiles, and specialty applications.
